Keeping Warm this Winter with FODMAP Friendly Food

If you have been keeping up to date with my blog and Facebook posts recently then you probably would have seen my latest video and blog post, showing you all of the FODMAP Friendly certified products you can find on the shelves at your local Coles supermarket.

In this video and blog I spoke about the wonderful Roasted Pumpkin & a hint of Sage and Lamb & Vegetable soups that the brand FODMAPPED For You have out in supermarkets. These soups are delicious, nutritious, low in FODMAPs and  the perfect meal to warm you up on a chilly winter’s day.  They are a super convenient lunch or dinner option, perfect for those ‘I can’t be bothered’ days and nights. Simply heat, eat and enjoy! A FODMAP Friendly serving size 250g (half the packet).

The perfect accompaniment to a bowl of warming soup has to be a crunchy slice of toasted bread. Look no further than your FODMAP Friendly certified varieties of Alpine Breads including:  Sour Rye, Spelt & Barley, Spelt & Sprouted Grains and Tuscany Grain.  Alpine Breads has four generations of baking history dating back to the 1930’s, with their knowledge and recipes being handed down from generation to generation you can be assured that they know how to make a scrumptious loaf of bread!

Alpine bread spelt and sprouted grains

My favourite FODMAP Friendly Alpine Bread variety at the moment would have to be their Spelt & Sprouted Grain Mix. Spelt is an ancient grain native to Europe and the Middle East, which is low in gluten, however not gluten free, and easy to digest. As an additional bonus to its rich and enjoyable taste, spelt contains excellent levels of fibre, protein, vitamin and minerals. Alpine Breads consider their Spelt & Sprouted Grains bread creation to be ‘a labour of love’. It is a lengthy process that starts with triple soaking of Mung beans, linseed, lentils, rye grains, soybeans and barley. These are allowed to sprout naturally until germinated. The sprouted grains are then blended with spelt wheat flour and rye flour to create a delicious and wholesome loaf of FODMAP Friendly bread. This bread is rich in flavours, proteins, fibre, vitamins, and minerals and easy to digest, enjoy with a side of FODMAPPED for You soup, as a sandwich or toasted with your favourite toppings. All of their breads are fantastic so I encourage you to try all of the different FODMAP Friendly varieties. Keep in mind that one serve is 2 slices (80g) of bread.

Alpine Breads can be found in Coles, but there is also an online store which can be found by clicking on this link: http://alpinebreads.com.au/products/

This meal of soup and toast is regular mid-week wonder for me. Give it a try and let me know what you think by commenting on our FODMAP Dietetics Facebook or Instagram posts in relation to this blog.

Until next time, I am Atlanta Miall. Good eating!!
