Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

What is SIBO? Typically, the small intestine is far less populated with bacteria than the large intestine. Structural and/or functional changes in the gastrointestinal tract can result in colonic bacteria invading the small intestine, known as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth or SIBO.

How do you test if you have SIBO?

You can test if you have SIBO by undertaking a simple and non-invasive breath hydrogen and methane breath test [1].  The glucose breath test is currently used for the diagnosis of SIBO. Want to know more about breath testing? Visit the Stream Diagnostics website.

I have SIBO what now?

If diagnosed with SIBO consult your GP and an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) to help you with your treatment.
